Visiting Scholar Academy
Internationally renowned scientists in Essen

The Visiting Scholar Academy invites internationally renowned scientists to the University of Duisburg-Essen every year to examine current topics from the most diverse areas of Business Information Systems together with students. In addition to the opportunity to discuss selected topics of Business Information Systems with internationally recognized experts in the respective field, students also have the opportunity to become acquainted with other forms of teaching, such as those practiced in the USA in the form of "case study teaching". In addition, students gain an insight into the international network of scientists who work together with researchers from the University of Duisburg-Essen on current topics in Business Information Systems.
The Visiting Scholar Academy began in the summer semester 2016 with the visit of Prof. Dr. Ulrike Schultze from the Business School of Southern Methdoist Unviersity in Texas. Since summer semester 2016, we have been offering every summer an a Visiting Scholar Academy, at which we welcomed Prof. Steven Alter from the University of San Francisco and Prof. Karlheinz Kautz from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In the current summer semester 2025, a lecture by Prof. Rudy Hirschheim from Louisiana State University, one of the leading figures in Information Systems Research, is scheduled for June 11, 2025, at 2 PM in R09 R04 H02. Prof. Hirschheim will give a lecture titled "Stop Talking About Theory: Garbage Cans, Pragmatism, and Useful Generalizations." Everyone interested is warmly invited!
