SITM conducted study on effective portfolio governance with Lufthansa AirPlus
The Chair of Information Systems and Strategic IT Management collaborated with Lufthansa AirPlus on a study to determine the principles of effective project portfolio governance. Project portfolio governance refers to standardized organizational processes underlying the management of multiple IT projects used to guide and control managers’ work and decisions. SITM conducted semi-structured interviews with project-portfolio-related stakeholders at different management levels, ranging from the middle management level to the executive board and lasting more than ten hours. The study led to a detailed causal model, explaining the complex interactions in portfolio governance processes and, ultimately, to a set of guidelines and recommendations for the effective governing of project portfolios. The areas of investigation included, among others, leadership, culture, strategy, project management, project implementation, and resources. The results of the study will be part of forthcoming publications. Once more, this successful project is a good example of a productive and sustainable cooperation between research, practice, and science. Lufthansa AirPlus Servicekarten GmbH is a provider of business travel payment solutions for corporations and is situated near Frankfurt on the Main. AirPlus has more than 1,000 employees and 41,900 corporate clients worldwide.
