GenAI-Supported Teaching: First Experiences with CustomGPTs
At Chairs SITM and IIS, we’ve recently started exploring how CustomGPTs can support teaching and learning across different levels and the early results are promising.
At our chairs, we're combining structured knowledge from our teaching materials with generative AI to experiment with new ways of designing, organizing, and enhancing academic courses. The goal is not to replace educators or students, but to relieve pressure where it makes sense and open up space for more meaningful learning experiences.
We’re currently working on use cases such as:
– Drafting exercises, cases, exam questions
– Generating learning objectives, semester schedules, and syllabi
– Creating didactic suggestions and format ideas for individual sessions
– Long-term: offering AI-based learning assistance tailored to students’ needs
We’ve already seen the potential for time savings and quality improvements in the preparation and planning phase, as well as new inspiration for didactic design. We’re aware that this space is still evolving: technically, didactically, and ethically. But we see real value in exploring it hands-on, critically and collaboratively.
