Location Campus Essen at the Chair of Sustainability and Innovation in Digital Ecosystems, Rhine-Ruhr Institute of Information Systems, Faculty of Computer Science

Research assistant (d/f/m, No. 332-25)

The influence of digital technologies on business and society is omnipresent. At the same time, humanity faces major challenges that require urgent action and innovation.

Under the slogan “Towards X Futures,” our working group reflects on the connections between digital and socio-ecological transformation, with a particular focus on the key technology of “artificial intelligence.” As the head of Place Beyond Bytes at the University of Duisburg-Essen, we are responsible for supporting digital start-up projects at the University of Duisburg-Essen. We directly accompany the development of digital products and services and research their economic, ecological, and social impact.

In the project “AI for SMEs in the Lower Rhine Region,” we strengthen AI-based innovations in the region. In cooperation with the incubation processes of Place Beyond Bytes, we support the concrete implementation of AI projects in small and medium-sized enterprises. We supplement the AI training program for SMEs developed by our partners. Every year, we accompany the implementation of concrete projects in companies over a period of three to six months. We place a particular focus on the planning of innovative AI projects, requirements management, the specification of AI applications, and the risk and benefit assessment of AI projects. This development is supported by peer-to-peer mentoring and a digital toolbox with reusable AI components from Place Beyond Bytes.
