Lecture “IT-Projektmanagement” successfully converted into blended learning
The “IT-Projektmanagement” lecture has been successfully converted from a traditional face-to-face concept into blended learning. The goal of the new blended learning lecture is to advance students’ understanding of how to solve practical problems in the IT project management context. The converted lecture provides self-paced, e-learning modules by means of Moodle and face-to-face lectures. The self-paced e-learning modules comprise material such as video teasers, multiple choice tests, and a number of key theoretical and applied readings, as well as practical case studies. These self-paced e-learning modules use the gamification concept to increase student engagement and motivation during the practical exercises. The face-to-face lectures are based on the just-in-time teaching (JiTT) concept in order to provide students with a rapid response to their specific questions and problems during their self-paced learning by means of Moodle. The converted course is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about practical problems in context of IT project management. The independent project evaluation at the end of the pilot semester showed that more than two-thirds of surveyed students were satisfied, or very satisfied, with the new teaching concept. The lecture is offered each summer term at the University Duisburg-Essen. Based on these experiences, the Chair of Information Systems and Strategic IT Management is going to improve the courses “IT Management, as well as “Organizational Behaviour,” by applying proven e-learning measures. Further information about e-learning activities can be found here and here. An exemplary teaser can be watched here.
