Keynote: Prof. Ahlemann on Future Skills in the Age of AI

On June 24, 2025, Frederik Ahlemann contributed as a speaker at the expert forum “Wie umgehen mit den Maschinen-Kollegen? Neue Kompetenzen für die Arbeit im Zeitalter der künstlichen Intelligenz” ("How to Work with Machine Colleagues? New Skills for the Age of Artificial Intelligence"). The event took place at the Gerhard-Mercator-Haus on the Duisburg campus and brought together researchers and industry professionals to discuss the transformation of the workplace through AI, automation, and digitalization.

In his keynote, Prof. Ahlemann offered insights into how digital technologies and artificial intelligence are reshaping the future of work. He emphasized the need to develop new competencies, not only in the short term but also with a medium- and long-term perspective. His talk explored which skills will remain essential, which are likely to evolve, and which entirely new ones may emerge as AI systems become collaborative “machine colleagues” in everyday professional life.

The event was hosted by the Center for Logistics and Traffic (ZLV) in collaboration with DIALOGistik and Logistik.NRW / LOG-IT Club e.V. It provided a platform for around 40 participants to engage with thought leaders from both academia and business. The program included expert talks, networking opportunities, and discussions on the future of logistics and workforce development in an era increasingly shaped by intelligent systems.

The event took place under the theme Future Skills in Logistics and encouraged critical thinking about the competencies that will define successful careers in a digitally transformed, AI-powered economy.
