WIPRO is the cross-chair platform for the announcement of project assignments in Information Systems (IS) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. It serves as a central website on which project topics offered by the IS chairs are collected and presented. Students can use this platform to obtain centralized information about available projects and may then apply for specific projects in a decentralized manner via the respective websites of the IS chairs.

Within this context, projects are conceived as planned, organized, and autonomous team-based engagements with empirical or theoretical topics. They typically include project planning and execution, the implementation of a software artifact, reflection on project progress, and the presentation and discussion of results.

Through the WIPRO process, students are provided with a broad and diverse range of topics. Accordingly, the following explanations refer to the research groups participating in the WIPRO process—that is, all IS chairs—namely the research groups of Prof. Ahlemann (DIP), Prof. Eicker (SOFTEC), Prof. Nadj (AI), Prof. Plattfaut (TM), Prof. Rothe (SUST), Prof. Schaarschmidt (APP), and Prof. Schütte (EPA).
